There are several spreads I have come across in my brainstorming for my travel magazine. Below I have included two-page sheet spreads from travel magazines that I will use as a means of guidance.
In general, I want my magazine's to focus to be on the beauty of the photos. Therefore, intend on having a layout where the images are the majority of content. The layout of the spreads above, feature photos on the upper half and text on the bottom half. The use of this layout allows for the inclusion of multiple photos. I want to present the beauty of nature and create a sense of appreciation among readers as they survey my magazine. Therefore, by the ability to have multiple photos on the spread, it allows for readers to see a sense of the atmosphere of the nature spots I include.
What I also find appealing about this layout is that it is simple. For my front cover I also want this look, so this format is perfect to continue the house style of simplicity. I intend on doing two column texts as appose to three column text because I believe the continuation of a two sense layout is more visually appealing. For example, it is a a spread containing two pages, the text and pictures are divided in two section, and I intend on organizing the photos in two columns (like the third magazine.) This will be more visual appealing and allow for minimal distraction from the photos featured.
.
Above I have included table of contents' from three different magazines. I prefer this format over traditional two page table of contents because it continues my house style of simplicity. I also am fond of the abundance of photos included because they are able to portray a sense of the atmosphere of the places I will be including.
Being a visual person, I prefer photos as a representation of meaning. In this case it is the beauty of nature and what it offers its admirers. I like the 3rd table of contents format because splits the information into 4 different categories. This makes it easier for readers to navigate through the magazine. I will be referencing back to the format of organization during the process of creating my table of contents page.
