Mood Board

In this activity, we skimmed through various magazines and got ideas on potential themes, fonts, and photos for the creation of our own magazines. With the creation of this mood board, I was able to create an idea of what I would like to include for my own magazine. I want to be able to have the pictures in my magazine that engulf my readers’ senses and cause them to enter a trance as the pictures of my mood board do to me. These photos are snapshots of Mother Nature's gifts, and I want my readers to appreciate this beauty as they skim my magazine. I want my theme to be scenic photos of nature. The beauty of Earth will be portrayed in a series of photos, which in why I included floral pictures and landscapes in my mood board. I am going to include nature photos that I have from my vacations. These photos are very similar to the photos I have included in this mood board.
To continue this theme, for fonts, I want them to be a less uniform and more inviting font. So, I will use fewer bolded letters and settle for rather bubbly letters like the one used for the font of "watermelon" and "Eastboy.” The use of these types of fonts will allow for the complete attention to be on the snapshots of the scenic photos.
For colors I want to use cool tones such as the ones shown in the mountain shots. The blue hues and white cues emphasize the laid-back mood that I want to create within the magazine. I also want to use pops of green and red to create a refreshing look and distinguish slightly from the cool hues. The use of different colors will also emphasize the theme of nature given that nature has many different types of scenes and colors and appeal to magazine views. I also like the use of complimentary colors which can be seen in the cut-out featuring a mountain outline with the colors red, green and yellow; these colors are also appealing to the eye.

5280 Magazine Analysis

The issue of the 5082 is a scenic travel magazine that portrays Colorado's extravagant views. Various techniques are utilized on the front cover of this magazine. For starters, the background photo consistently shows mountainous shots. The shots show grassy or rocky terrain and mountains as the backdrop. Two of the three covers show a person in the shot. This can possibly allude to readers as they feel it is a welcoming site instead of an intimidating terrain , given that others have explored the same views portrayed in these shots. The shots are taken either at dawn or dusk, this may be because the sunset/sunrise highlight the beauty of the views (hues of color) and hikers tend to be early birds, making readers want to be present at the time; also, making the possible target: adventurous travelers and nature's admirers.       Furthermore, the colors in the magazine help to create a placid mood and a welcoming feeling. All the ed...

PTS feature spread content process

Choosing an article topic for the two page feature was somewhat challenging. I had minimal word count for each article, being that it was a half a page of text for one article. However, to narrow my searches down I decided to touch upon the National parks I photographed and I they can offer its visitors. But specific to my magazine, I made sure to focus on adventurous and outdoorsy activities because my target audience are adventurous travelers and nature goers. I began searching for puns and slogans for the Rocky mountain national park. I found "Rockies Empire" and instantly pictured it as my article title. However, in order not to fall into copyright issues, I created the title "The Rockies Kingdom." I took a shot on Long's peak in the park and thought of it as the "king" of the rockies so I decided to adopt this as my title for the Colorado portion of the layout. Below the "Long's peak" photo:  As for the California portion...
