In this activity, we skimmed through various magazines and got ideas on potential themes, fonts, and photos for the creation of our own magazines. With the creation of this mood board, I was able to create an idea of what I would like to include for my own magazine. I want to be able to have the pictures in my magazine that engulf my readers’ senses and cause them to enter a trance as the pictures of my mood board do to me. These photos are snapshots of Mother Nature's gifts, and I want my readers to appreciate this beauty as they skim my magazine. I want my theme to be scenic photos of nature. The beauty of Earth will be portrayed in a series of photos, which in why I included floral pictures and landscapes in my mood board. We were assigned groups in which we conducted an analysis on different magazines that used different techniques for their house styles. There were ten groups in the class, and we all had different magazine brands. We were given three different issues to compare and contrast. In watching different group presentations, I learned about how brands use different fonts and positioning of words to create their house styles. For example, the positioning of the main font and the features. I also learned about how different colors on the front page help to attract readers. For example, red attracts the eye which is ideal on a magazine front cover. Furthermore, there are target audiences for magazines in which a brand's content is geared toward.  Hyperbolic words and rhetorical questions are also used on the front covers to allure readers; in using these techniques, readers become interested in the main content featured in the magazine.
